Domain names must be unique throughout the entire Internet. For example, "sunlink.net" is the unique domain name for SunLink. Most domain names end in ".com", like "smith.com". You can check to see if your domain name is already registered by typing the following command from your shell account:
whois smith.com
(replacing "smith.com" with your domain name)
Here's how email aliasing works -
Suppose Mary Smith registers the domain name "smith.com".
After she receives confirmation of registration,
she can receive mail addressed to any user ID at smith.com,
such as "[email protected]" or "[email protected]".
All mail will be received in her original SunLink mail box,
"[email protected]".
The headers at the top of each message will contain information indicating
who the intended recipient ("[email protected]", "[email protected]", etc.) is.
DOMAIN NAME SUBMISSION AND EMAIL ALIASING IS FREE FOR
COMMERCIAL ACCOUNT HOLDERS.
Call the SunLink office (717-286-5764) or
send email to
[email protected] for more information.
