Ken Sawyer
is WRAK's local on-air morning man and
Operations Manager for WRAK and WMYL.
From 6 am to 9 am, Monday through Friday, Ken and Mark
Lawrence keep you up to date on local news, weather, and
sports during breaks in the "Imus in the
Morning" show. Then, from 10 am to Noon, he hosts
the "Ken Sawyer Show" - a local talk program.
Ken is also the "play by play" voice of the Little League World
Series, Williamsport Area High School and Lycoming
College football and basketball, and Williamsport Area
High School wrestling on WRAK. As a boy in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Ken used to spend Saturday mornings at the local radio station studio only a block from his home. At age 10 he moved to Milford, Delaware, but could only spend nights trying to tune in distant "big city" stations. At age fourteen, Ken moved to Ridley Township, Delaware County, PA where his Church had a weekly radio program which Ken was on (maybe a minute a show!). Ken's first radio job was in Warrenton, VA at station WEER. After 7 months, Ken joined Uncle Sam's radio station, sort of. The US Army put Ken to work in a different form of radio in Georgia, Vietnam, and Texas. In Late August of 1970, a week after finishing 3 years in the Army, Ken joined Williamsport's WWPA radio station, where he worked until 1988 when he moved to WRAK. It's not just his "on air" performance which has endeared Ken to the Williamsport Area audience. He has served on the boards of several charities and groups in the area. He is a Sunday School teacher at Newberry Church of Christ. Ken also taught part time at Lycoming College for several years. Although being on the air early in the morning and broadcasting sports late at night does not sometimes leave much time for hobbies or family, Ken tries to spend as much time as possible around his children's activities. Ken and his wife, Merlyn, have 3 children (Jennifer, Sam, & Sean), and one grandchild (Bridget). They all live in the Williamsport area. |
